Pavlo Kravets, Director of FSC Ukraine, took part in the Forum on Forest Science and Education: Needs and priorities for cooperation" on November 21-22, 2023, in Laxenburg, Austria. The event was organized by the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NULES) with the support of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime Affairs and Water Management (BML). The forum aimed to bring together global experts and gain their experience to catalyze coordinated and effective international action aimed at identifying priorities for Ukrainie’s forest research and education.

FSC Ukraine promotes the mission of responsible forest management based on use of objective data and introduction of a scientific approach to the development of forest policy and implementation of FSC national forest stewardship standard requirements.

"I would like to note that involving scientists and researchers in the implementation of mission to promote responsible forest management creates conditions for partnership, development of innovations, and attraction of long-term investments in the country's economy. We presented a practical case study on monitoring of forests damaged by illegal amber mining, when scientists established objective data collection based on remote sensing and updates in accordance with a transparent methodology, and FSC provided open access to them for competent authorities and certification bodies. This is an example of how FSC is working to develop solutions to overcome the challenges in the forestry sector and ensures the integrity of its system. We are currently engaging scientists to introduce theoretical and practical management approaches to the current forest management practice to adapt it to modern challenges," said Pavlo Kravets.
