ReBuild Ukraine has established itself as a platform for discussing strategic reconstruction projects at the highest political level, presenting innovative materials and advanced technologies necessary for the sustainable recovery of Ukraine.
Among other things, FSC Ukraine held an interactive webinar "European Initiatives on Sustainable Constructing with Wood: Experience and Lessons for Ukraine." Over 60 participants from Ukraine, the EU, and the US discussed the prospects of low-carbon wood construction in the context of European integration opportunities, implementation of New European Bauhaus approaches, and current challenges.
What role does wood play and what place can it take in green recovery? Is Ukrainian society ready for the idea of mass use of wood in construction? What useful experience can Europe share in this regard? These are just some of the questions that representatives of businesses, non-governmental organizations, scientific and educational institutions, and European initiatives on the use of wood in construction sought to answer.
Brian Milakovsky, a leading expert in economic recovery and sustainable development, moderated a lively discussion between speakers Oliver Jancke (InnovaWood) and Michelle Stede (FSC Netherlands) and the participants on the partnership of business, science, and education as a catalyst for sustainable wood construction. An interactive survey during the webinar revealed not only a circle of those interested in creating a coalition to promote wood and innovation in the reconstruction of Ukraine but also a high degree of readiness for such an initiative.
"The diversity of challenges that arise in connection with promoting the ideology of using wood in construction, in particular, regarding the sustainability of its supply sources, requires consolidating the efforts of a wide range of stakeholders. We have inspiring examples from our European colleagues in creating and operating innovative coalitions. FSC Ukraine takes a proactive position in forming partnerships around the values that unite us. We see today's event as a conscious request to create a coalition to promote the responsible use of wood for the green recovery of the country," concluded Pavlo Kravets, FSC Ukraine National Representative.
